Veneers Q & A

What are veneers also know as porcelain veneers?

Veneers are thin, semi-translucent laminates permanently bonded to the fronts of a patient’s teeth. Veneers are often used to close large gaps between the teeth, treat misalignment, restore misshapen teeth, and give patients the smile of their dreams without unnatural looking bridges or crowns. Veneers are so thin and custom fit to the patient’s mouth so there is rarely any effect on speech or eating. The application does not involve injections, drilling, or pain, and is most often placed in two visits to Dr. Kathy.

How are veneers also know as porcelain veneers applied?

Veneers typically require two office visits to complete. During the first visit to Dr. Kathy, your teeth are evaluated and a small portion of the surface material is carefully removed to make room for the veneer. Removing a small portion of the tooth surface will ensure the veneer is level with the surfaces of neighboring teeth once it’s applied. An impression will also be made and sent to a dental lab where the permanent veneer is custom crafted. A temporary veneer is usually applied to protect the teeth while you’re waiting for the permanent veneer to be made. At the second visit, the temporary veneer is removed and the permanent veneer is applied using a very strong bonding agent. A final buffing and polishing will ensure the fit is ideal.

How long do veneers also know as porcelain veneers last?

Veneers usually last for up to 20 years if cared for properly. Regular brushing and flossing, as well as routine visits to Dr. Kathy for check-ups and professional cleanings, will extend the duration of your veneers.

What are the benefits of dental veneers also known as porcelain veneers?

This procedure can provide an excellent solution because veneers can be employed to change your smile to look beautiful and healthy. The options also look like natural teeth, there is no need for surgery, and the recovery time is minimal. Since the veneers are designed to color-match your teeth, no one will be able to tell that you have undergone a cosmetic dental procedure. An added benefit is that veneers are also made from a stain-resistant material. This helps them remain white and bright, even when consuming a favorite beverage like a cup of coffee.
